The Data Migrator data integration platform allow for direct access to all of your data, so you can design your architecture to address the unique information needs of all your users. Data Migrator accelerates the deployment and reduces the risk of all types of data integration projects – including extract, transform, and load (ETL), enterprise information integration (EII) initiatives, and Web services deployments.

Information from the vendor
Information Builders has been around for almost four decades now. Data Migrator is a SQL generator that makes extracts. It uses the many available iWay adapters. iWay is a wholly owned company of Information Builders that focuses on data integration and service-oriented architecture.
All Information Builders’ products are based on FOCUS, a language released in 1975 and used to build database queries. It is regarded as a fourth-generation programming language (4GL) and is similar to SQL and the SAS language. Contrary to SQL and SAS it also includes report, chart display and presentation features. The Focus language was originally developed for the Focus database. Very soon afterwards adapters were developed to communicate with other databases. Adapters were then called Data Drivers. Because it has been around for such a long time, the software can communicate with many target systems, even older ones such as OpenVMS, Unix, System z and I from IBM, so it has a particularly broad platform support.
Write back to native formats
Nowadays one can use “standard” SQL to write (and generate) queries. These are then translated by the adapter to the “native” FOCUS language. The engine can also write back to native formats (SQL, JSON, XML, CSV, TXT).
“It’s not a tool for the end user”
Rick van der Linden, senior analyst and author of the ETL Tools & Data Integration Survey said about Data Migrator / iWay: “It’s not a tool for the end user, but useful particularly if you need to extract data from the mainframe or legacy databases.” Find out more and order now the ETL Tools & Data Integration Survey 2017.
